boshoven29016Gust was born 24 juni 1931 in Alphen, part of the municipality Alphen & Riel at that time. He was the 4th son of Matheus Cornelius Roelands and Adriana Maria Meeusen. He grew up at boshoven 29, but most of his days the house was numberred A 297.   On the photo is a view in the ealy 1900's.  The barn was quite new.  Before going to Canada he attended a special course for catholic emigrants, some of his books are still in a trunk at our attic.

GusAdriBoshovenGusAdriHuwHe got married  20 march 1956 to Adriana Theresia De Graaf, born in Wagenberg. The couple met ant the 25th wedding aniversary of Adrie's aunt and Gus' uncle (Anna de Graaf and Adrianus Simon Roelands) Before their marriage Gus was already exploring in Canada, finding a place to get started a life with his future-wife.They emigrated to Ontario, Canada, only one month later. Traveling by boat (formerly a troopship in WW2), they arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The first place was mount Brydges.Guscanada Strathroy was the next stop. Soon the Canadian Roelands family expanded.  They settled down in Parkhill, in the province Ontario.

After a fullfilled life, leaving a gratefull family Gus died in 2005 on the 24th of november.GusR goodbye His wife, my aunt Adri was left behind, supported by their children and grandchildren. Her health was deteriorating due to her age. She parted this life on september 30th in 2017 at the blessed age of 86.

kadaster prHage1824This is a life-description on the grandfather of Interstruif. Matheus Cornelis was born in 1895 as a son of Adrianus Roelands and Anna Maria Kooijen. The family lived in 't Hout in Princenhage, Nowadays part of Breda, North-Brabant, the Nedtherlands.

On november 25th 1914 he was registred as a new inhabitant in the municipality of Bavel en Ginneken, where he was going to work as a farming-aid. This job was also to gain experience in farming, the adress was Lage Aard (B158) in Bavel at the Verkooijen family . On the  10th of december 1914 he left, according to the reccords to live in Gilze, possibly only to sleep as the adress in Bavel was on walking distance (ca. 2 km).

A registration  was found in the official register of inhabitants of Gilze of the Roelands family 1914 the rest of his family arrived a day earlier then Matheus Cornelis did.

Durring the first world  war he was a soldier and received a medal (of rememberance) for this duty. A few years before he was trained as a soldier probably.

The map of Boshoven and surroundings was published in 1916 (military map). A lot of the land was still not in use for farming as it is shown on later maps, as  you may notice.  The present farm-buildingboshoven29016 was constructed in 1903, the original barn was build in 1928.  Together with is wife Adriana, Theo had quite a few children. On the photo are Kees, Antoon and AndrĂ©.

Matheus Cornelis was very active in community-life and local politics  He was a member of the board within the local farmers-union(NCB). In the local municipality he was a member since the end of the war (1945) until he died, during that he was also an "wethouder" (alderman) busy with the local daily government, and acted as a stand-in in the abcence of the "burgemeester" (Mayor). In november 1944 a terrible accident happenend. The oldest son "Jos" Adrianus, named in the tradiditon after his grandfather, rode with horse and cart on a land-mine and was killed immediately.

In 1953 His wife Adriana died. The cause was a painfull abdominal disease. The eldest daughter Lies postponed her weddingplan due to this.

In the spring  2018 the graves of Matheus Cornelis, his wife Adriana and their son Adrianus were removed.
